Typographic Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania
art book, 120x170mm, 2020
Paying homage to Jonas Mekas’ film in the title, this book is narrative made out of a documentary typographic research through frottage and photographic tehniques. Examination of the semiotics of urban typographic fragments, and their speculative role in historical interpretations in the region of Baltics.
notes from the research diary:
In multi-national societies, nationalistic fables tend to co-exist one with another, just like the languages. Their structures tends to resemble the linguistical one, in the sense that they can be as equally complex and altered by daily colloquilal use. Co-habbitation of typographic fragments - Soviet and contemporary Baltic ones was something that caught my eye during the 6 month stay in the region. That co-habbitation, when isolated as a phenomena provied an eerie sense of being displaced from place and time and resembled a presence of certain heterotopic spaces.
